Another installment in Connell's extremely popular and successful Seminar Series was completed on Friday afternoon. This one focused squarely on all things Work Comp, and ran from 8:15 to 2:30 at the University Plaza hotel in Springfield Missouri.
Right away, John Mundwiller got the audience involved with his entertaining and thought-provoking discussion of Return-to-Work programs, and why the investment in time and energy is well worth the effort. Dr. Ted Lennard picked up and continued the discussion from the perspective of a physician, offering valuable insight into the investigative examination process and how it differs from a routine visit to your family doctor.
Mr. Andy Vitale of Apex Physical Therapy offered his thoughts on "Injury Prevention and Management", and provided guidelines to follow both before and after an injury has occurred, as well as an overview of the tools available to employers to help prevent injuries in the first place. After lunch, the panel fielded questions from the audience, providing a unique opportunity for attendees to tap into the combined knowledge and experience of all presenters.
Commissioner Alice Bartlett closed out the afternoon, bringing her experience as the employer representative on the Missouri Labor and Industrial Relations Commission. The Commission hears statewide appeals from employers and claimants who are not satisfied with the rulings of the work comp administrative law judges or the unemployment referees, and she provided attendees with a general update on appeals and decisions in the workers' compensation and unemployment systems.
